Kneading...Needing

This year, instead of a sugary birthday cake, I spent the day making a loaf of cinnamon-raisin bread. There are few breads more comforting to me than this loaf...and sometimes comfort is what you knead when you spend your birthday so far from those you love.

Watching dough rise in my Grandmother's yelloware bowl connects me to my roots and the entire process of baking always fills me with nostalgia and a longing for home.

We ate it warm from the oven and it was delicious. I glazed the top and let it drip down the sides, but I will admit I prefer a thicker, sweeter icing. And, of course, the added bonus of baking this loaf is that the smell of cinnamon wafts through the house. I felt like a kid again...and isn't that what we all want on our birthdays?

Happy Weekend!

And a lovely loaf it is! I know what you mean. I made a batch of my grandmother's pickles a couple of summers ago and am soon to run out. Now must wait until next summer, for a lot of things. My mother used to sprinkle cinnamon on the hot burner to warm the house and give it that smell and I sometimes do it for myself just for that comfort. Try it! And think of me!
Bonne semaine, cherie!
